The Challenge
Each department of Oman Methanol Company LLC (OMC) has its own document management system policy and procedure. OMC was looking for the centralized document management system which can be used to track, manage and store documents and reduce paper and capable of keeping a record of the various versions created and modified by different users (history tracking).
Some of the OMC's Key Challenges are:
  • The document and knowledge management infrastructure at the Oman Methanol was limited; mostly manual with hard copy documents, video files, audio files, etc. Documents and information were scattered and stored in paper file cabinets, hard drives, shared networks / file servers. As a result, Oman Methanol was challenged with excessive paper-oriented management, multiple versions of the documents making it difficult to retrieve information in a timely manner.
  • Document archiving, searching and retrieval was time consuming and managing usage, re-usage and storage of documents was complex
  • OMC's business processes were repetitive involving high turnaround time and low responsiveness and decision making
